Antique 17th century Dutch painting. Oil painting on canvas depicting mythological subject Vertumnus and Pomona, attributable to the circle of Caspar Netscher (1639-1684). Vertumnus, one of the main Etruscan deities, presided over the change of seasons; he fell madly in love with Pomona, the goddess of fruit, but always rejected. In fact, the goddess had promised never to give herself to any man. One day, however, Vertumnus took the form of an old woman, approached her, began to praise her, to go to the story of the elm and the vine, how to grow strong and bear fruit should lean on that: so Pomona would had to look for Vertumnus' loyalty and support. Pomona was persuaded and decided for the wedding, this time in love. Framework of great size and impact, of exceptional pictorial quality, with a modern lacquered wooden frame of beautiful decoration.
