A painted marble-board dated 1883. Long 74 cm. Wide 29 cm. Delicately painted with a seascape with various boats and a landscape with trees, a house and carriages. Old repairs to the paintwork in places. The board comes with twelve original antique marbles. Frisian folk-art, 19th C.

A paper mache tobacco box with a beautifully painted landscape with horses.


A tobacco box. Measuring 12,5 x 7,5 x 3,5 cm. Made of paper mache, the box has on its lid a handpainted decoration showing a mountainais landscape with four horses. The landscape and the construction of the box suggest a European origin of the middle of the nineteenth century. The box is in mint condition.

A large anvil. Overall length 63 cm. Head 17,5 x 3,5 x 3 cm. Weight 7 kg. This anvil was used in a millwrights workshop and was anchored in the floor. The hole in the headpart was probably used to insert other tools. Low Countries around 1850.

A glass bracelet. Diameter 9 cm. High 15 mm. With attractive colouring. Old repair to one side. This bracelet was made around AD 2-300. Considering its age, it is in remarkably good condition.

A small hand drill. Overall length 12 cm. Length handle 5 cm. The drill is in good still usable state. Made in the Low Countries around 1800. The bone handle, well made, is quite unusual.

A diorama in bone, a so called "bavelaar" by Cornelis Bavelaar the Elder (1747-1830).


A rare diorama. Measuring 11 x 9,5 x 3 cm. Entirely made of bone. This is typical for the first of a famous family of sculptors from Leyden. Cornelis Bavelaar the Elder was born in Leyden in 1747 and died in the same city in 1830. He worked only with bone. The next generations made diorama's in wood. This diorama shows a landscape with ships, a cow and a peasant.

A cookie mould. Long 52 cm. Wide 22 cm. Thick 3 cm. On one side a gentleman with his dog. On the other side a lady. The mould is very well sculptured and shows signs of use. It was made in the first half of the nineteenth century. Double sided moulds with a man and a woman were popular throughout the nineteenth century and were used especially in December with the birthday of St.Nicolas.

A boxwood container with glass syringe. Overall length 14 cm. The container with screw on top.The syringe extended 18 cm and closed 12 cm. Both in mint condition.

A bone ear spoon. Length 95 mm. With on top a nicely sculptured man wearing a hat. The flat end is rather typical for this type of tool for personal hygiene. This item was found in an ancient exvavation site. It is remarkably well preserved. It was made around 1600.

A mangleboard. Long 76 cm. Wide 12 cm. The oakwood board elaborately decorated with traditional Frisian kerbschnitt and the text: "MARITIEN RITTIES DOCHTER ANNO 1665". The board is accompanied by a rosewood manglestick 36 cm. long. Traditionally these items were wedding gifts.

A pair of silver buckles. Diameter 50 mm. Weight 50 gram. This unusual pair was made for a boy of about ten years of age to wear with the traditional dress in Zuid-Beveland in Zeeland. This boy must have belonged to a well to do family, possibly of noble origin. The buckles are in good, well used condition. They were made around 1800.

A lock keepers money box. Long 23 cm. High(excl.handle) 8,5 cm. Wide 7 cm. The box has an iron handle of 18 cm high on two rings. On the upper part of the box is a lid with a ring which closes an area underneath for receiving the money. When a ship is inside the lock, the keeper lowers this box on a rope and the required fee can be paid inside. This box was used in Zeeland towards the end of the 19th C. It is in mint condition. Only a few of these boxes are still in existence.

A pewter drinking cup. High 6,5 cm. Diameter opening 2,5 cm. Diameter bottom 3,5 cm. The cup is decorated with numerous rings and has a superb black patina. It was found in an ancient excavation site in Middelburgh. It probably dates back to the fourteenth century.
