Spectacular mask, in Vicenza stone, representing Minerva (Athena). Divinity of loyalty in battle, heroic virtues, just war (war for just causes or defense), wisdom, strategies, and is also recognized as the protector of craftsmen. Masquerade can be used as a fountain mouth or simply as a wall mask. Work forming part of a large collection of mythological masks (Mercury, Bacchus, Hercules, Venus, Diana, etc. etc.). Minerva is the daughter of Jupiter and Metis. She is considered the virgin deity of the just war, wisdom, ingenuity, useful arts (architecture, engineering, science, mathematics, geometry, crafts and weaving), as well as inventor of the loom and the chariot, and several other things. Its symbols are the owl, the olive tree, the aegis and the armor with shield and spear. Lot of extreme quality, more unique than rare. Beautiful patina of the stone. Masterful care and precision of anatomical details. Perfect if hung on the wall. Medium in size, proportionate and appropriate weight. Lot made by hand, completely hand carved. Beautiful marble sculpture depicting Apollo del Belvedere. Provenance Venice, private collection. The work depicts the Greek god Apollo, who has just killed the serpent Python with the arrows of his bow. His muscles, still tense, hint at the exertion following the battle against Python, while his ringlet hair falls fluidly over his neck and elegantly gathered on his head, which is encircled by strophium, an ornamental band symbolizing a deity or king. The god is entirely nude, with the exception of his shoulder quiver, sandals, and cloak wrapped around his right shoulder, which spills over his left arm and part of his back.
