Spectacular mask in Vicenza stone, depicting the god Bacchus, God of wine and harvest, as well as the pleasure of the senses and entertainment. Provenance Venice, private collection. Mascherone can be used as a fountain mouth or simply as a wall mask. Work is part of a large collection of mythological masks (Minerva, Hercules, Diana, Venus, Mars, etc. etc.). Lot of extreme quality, more unique than rare. Beautiful patina of the stone. Masterful care and precision of anatomical details. Perfect if hung on the wall. Beautiful marble sculpture depicting Apollo del Belvedere. Provenance Venice, private collection. The work depicts the Greek god Apollo, who has just killed the serpent Python with the arrows of his bow. His muscles, still tense, hint at the exertion following the battle against Python, while his ringlet hair falls fluidly over his neck and elegantly gathered on his head, which is encircled by strophium, an ornamental band symbolizing a deity or king. The god is entirely nude, with the exception of his shoulder quiver, sandals, and cloak wrapped around his right shoulder, which spills over his left arm and part of his back.
