A 19thC. Wrought iron safe by Charf.

A late 19th Century French Wrought Iron Safe by Magaud De Charf. This important, Gothic hobnail wrought iron safe was manufactured by Magaud de Charf in Marseilles, France (1850-1890) and features nailhead design on all four sides. It has an all-original, working mechanism. The front door is further decorated with two large hinges on the sides. The inside opens to reveal an amazing lock mechanism and a large storage compartment. To open the safe, you first need to find and locate the nail which will activate and open the key latch on the right. Then, by inserting the smaller of the three keys half-way, it will open both left key latches at once. Next, place the two large keys in each key hole one at a time. In perfect working order. 3 keys! Note: If you want, we can send you a video in a separate email about the working method and order of the 3 locks. Dimensions: H104 x W74 x D50cm. H40.94 x W29.13 x D19.69inch.

Marble bust of Corneille van Cleve

Marble bust of Corneille van Cleve

A beautiful Carrara marble bust of Corneille van Clève, after Jean-Jacques Caffieri (1725-1792). France 19th century. Corneille van Clève: Corneille van Clève was born into a family of goldsmiths of Flemish origin that settled in Paris in the early 17th century. It is thought that he first trained with Michel or François Anguier before moving to the Académie Royale and then to the Académie de France, Rome, in 1671 where he closely studied the works of Gianlorenzo Bernini. He extended his stay in Italy by four years, remaining in Venice, before finally returning to France in 1678. He was finally accepted by the Académie in 1681 with his marble figure of Polyphemus, now in the Musée du Louvre, Paris, that was inspired by Annibale Carracci's fresco in the Palazzo Farnese, Rome. For the following 40 years he enjoyed a highly successful career working for royal, as well as private, clients and the church. Dimensions; H67 x W50 x D35 H26.38 x W19.69 x D13.78 inch.

An Art Deco lamp by Sabino Paris

A large Art Deco brass and crystal table lamp by Marius Ernest Sabino. Signed Sabino Paris. 5 light points France c.1925s Dimensions: H60 by 34.5 cm. H23.62 by 13.58 inch. Marius Ernest Sabino (1878-1961) was born in 1878 in Italy. He was an Italian-born Parisian who attended L'Ecole National des Arts Decoratifs and the Beaux Arts de Paris. He won numerous prizes in Europe for his art and was awarded the Knight of the Legion d'Honneur for his contributions to French art and industry. Sabino experimented with glass and by 1925 he had created his own chemical formula for opalescent glass. The result is that in low light the glass often appears white or bluish like ice in a glacier, but with brighter or more direct light, many of the pieces turn a subtle golden color. As if by magic. Ernest died in 1961.
